I first got involved with Land Rovers in 1958
when I used to "drive" a neighbours' 1956 Series 1 SWB. I progressed to tractor
driving at the age of 9 and was combining at the age of 12. I plunged into Land Rovers
full time when I took on what was meant to be a temporary job for 6 months, with Penn
Rental Service (Dingocrofts' parent company). Now look what has happened to me!
I drove many thousands of miles in S2A, S3
& 110 diesels on delivery work, usually towing 2 ton plus. I had many hairy moments
over the years one being ;
I was coming down the side of a mountain in
Wales towing a recovery trailer with disabled caravan on top (at least 3 ton in total),
not able to hold in low gear. The surface was wet shale, there was a thick fog and I knew
from previous trips that there was a shear drop of several hundred feet to my right plus
of course hairpin bends! I needed a brandy after that, but had to make do with coffee.
I no longer have a Land Rover having sold my
S1 three years ago to a customer (always a good idea!). I now concentrate on a Rover P6B
(V8 estate) which keeps me busy.
In my spare time I also look after my wife and
two teenage daughters, the dog, 2 guinea-pigs, 2 more cars, the house and garden
etc......HELP!!!!!
