When the caravan business closed in 1988 I returned to
building for a couple of years. During which which time I ran a 110 pickup that carried
anything from sand to tree trunks and doubled up as a mobile workshop. During this time I
also carried out maintenance at the High Street premises of Dingocroft.
In 1990 I became a full time member of the shop staff
at Downley working as delivery driver, and in charge of the general upkeep of the
buildings.
Today my main job is organising the van delivery sales
together with looking after the stores and the goods that pass through it. I still get
time to change the occasional light bulb or put a shelf up. In recent years our export
business has increased greatly so a lot of time is taken on picking and packing orders for
despatch to all parts of the world.
Outside of work my main interest is music and
collecting things, anything from records to stamps, tools to model cars. If things had
been different I might have been a full-time musician, but every time an opportunity came
along I chose to stick with the caravans - but you do need something to pull them
with, dont you?
